Standaard Internet scammers gepakt.

Scam Police Unplug 800 Nigerian Websites
• by Carlo Orlando on 20091023 @ 10:18AM EST | google it | send to friends
• Filed under Security | (related terms: email scamming, victims, police, operation, nigerian scammers)
A major anti-corruption crusade has taken shape in Nigeria, formed in the hopes of cracking down on Internet scammers throughout the country. The campaign recently shut down 800 scam websites and busted 18 networks used by email fraudsters.
According to Farida Waziri, Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) boss, "Over 800 fraudulent email addresses have been identified and shut down. There have also been 18 arrests of high profile syndicates operating cyber-crime organizations." (Source: com.au)
Epicenter of Email Scamming
Nigeria carries the undesirable reputation of being the epicenter of email scamming. In recent years, these online deviants have wreaked havoc on international web users.
While scammers have long experienced a relatively safe buffer zone in Africa, combined with previous "laissez-faire" enforcement officials, now anti-corruption police have responded to a worldwide call to action in an effort to stamp out cyber crime. If everything goes according to plan, within the next six months, "operation eagle claw" will have forewarned a quarter of a million potential victims.
Hi,

Spam Godfather Sentenced 4 Years, Plus $250k Fine
by Brandon Dimmel on 20091125 @ 09:46AM EST | google it | send to friends
Filed under Security | (related terms: spam, email, stock, ralsky, prison)
The reputed "Godfather of Spam", 64-year-old Bloomfield, Michigan man Alan Ralsky, has been sentenced to four years behind bars by a U.S. District Judge in the Motor City. Ralsky and his co-conspirators were found guilty of leading an email stock scheme and money laundering operations.

Ralsky, a West Bloomfield resident, was convicted alongside his son-in-law, 48-year-old Scott Bradley. Both designed an elaborate spamming operation that took aim at high-value targets: those in involved in the stock market. The pair were able to use spam to help inflate stock prices and in turn profited once they traded in those same stocks. This is often referred to as a "pump and dump" scheme. (Source: pcworld.com)

Spam Godfather Faces Prison, Probation, $250K Fine
Ralsky will receive a stiff penalty for his "white collar" crime. In addition to the four years in prison, he'll also receive five additional years of closely supervised probation. In the meantime, he's expected to pay a hefty $250,000 fine for several violations of the CAN-SPAM Act, including mail fraud and wire fraud.
En terecht vind ik.
Groet Piet.
